Considering Death
Have you ever had that feeling of emptiness?
That feeling when you can’t get to sleep as all you can think about is what it will be like to die.
- Will you notice it?
- Will it be painful or will it simply be like drifting off to sleep?
I have that feeling regularly: sitting awake at 1 a.m., staring at the ceiling, wondering what the purpose of it all was. What is the point of putting each and every human being through this process, knowing that one day, everything you have done will be switched off?
Flicking a switch as you leave the room, handing over the reins to a new generation. Your children or your friends continue forward with the memories of the life that you lead, yet eventually, those fade.
Less than 1% of us will be remembered as we have created a piece of literature or starred in a standout film that has stood the test of time, yet for most the light will be switched off and that is it.
The journey is over, and we need to deal with whatever comes next. Is that heaven? We would all love to believe that is the case and that there is a bright future waiting for us where all of our relatives and anyone we have ever loved live, but is that really the case, or is it a nice story?
