Ego Driven Engagement
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few
User experience or UX for short is everywhere but often ends up forgotten. It is placed to the side like an old pair of socks, whilst the views of the few or the one drive the direction of the product.
It is easy to understand why. People look to their leaders to lead (funny that), but the best of us often don’t wish to lead as we do not wish for the added pressure. We do not wish to let others down and therefore the ones who do speak up (those least qualified) tend to lead. This is where the problems begin…
At the Heart of Everything
Oftentimes leaders feel as though they need to know all of the answers and to appear superior to their team when this should not be the case. I accept that I am flawed. I accept that I make mistakes and sometimes need to reverse course, but this is rare.
Many leaders that I have come across during my time (and not necessarily in the team I am working with) stick to their guns to the detriment of all. They have a vision of what they feel things should look like (fine) and are unwilling to back away from it even when the data does not back them up. This is when problems emerge.
